This historic cure cottage built in 1920, overlooks Lake Flower and faces Mts. Pisgah, Baker and MacKenzie. It is within walking distance of downtown Saranac Lake, ten miles from Lake Placid and twenty miles from Whiteface Mountain and Big Tupper ski areas.
The Fogarty's
B&B is very comfortable.
The warmth from the fireplace in the living room after a day of hiking,
canoeing, or skiing is most relaxing.
A good book, a few friends, and conversation; or, perhaps a game of pool
in the billiard room on the second floor with a beer makes the evening special.
Upstairs there are four bedrooms with double beds and one bedroom with
two single beds.
The three bath rooms are shared and each has a big bath tub for relaxing
after a great day of outdoor activities.
Nearby restaurants are very good and reasonably priced.
Lake Placid
(20 minutes by car) offers a great variety of culinary delights
as well as shopping and evening entertainment.
Breakfast is served between seven and nine in the morning by Jack and
consists of bacon and eggs, French toast (most excellent), and assorted
goodies along with cereal and other breakfast things.
The View
from the Fogarty's B&B provides an awesome panorama of Flower Lake and the
nearby mountains.
Flower Lake is connected to several a few other lakes via streams and canals
with locks.
A
favorite summer activity
is to rent canoes from the local outfitter
who will drive you and your gear to one of the middle or upper lakes.
The easy paddle across the lakes, through the adjoining streams, past small
islands, canals with locks, beautiful picnic spots and swimming areas,
surrounded by mountains and beautiful scenery makes the experience memorable.
The end of the paddle leaves you in front of the B&B where you have only
to climb the stairs to draw a warm bath and relax before dinner.
The outfitter will pick up the canoes and you have no worries.
The cost of $15 per person is most reasonable for a full day of great fun.
This is my favorite summer activity.
Favorite winter sports include cross country skiing, down hill skiing, and
the olympic bob sled run.
Things to Do

There are many things to do all year at Lake Placid and Saranac Lake. The groomed olymipic cross country ski trails, the great variety of back country skiing, and wilderness canoeing made easy are a strong attraction to the area. Best of all, the warmth and comfort of the Fogarty's B&B make this area one worth revisiting.

Did I tell you that the town gets together every February to make an ice castle out of the frozen Flower Lake? Each year it is slightly different but always has an entrance with windy twisty passageways and sometimes it has an ice slide for the kids (and me too).
