Prerequisites
  1. Read the prerequisites on this website (Pilot > Prerequisites > [Airman Certificate])
  2. Review the appendix of AC 61-65H to assure the proper endorsements are complete.
  3. Study the FAA Airman Certificate Standards (ACS) and refer to the Code of Federal Regulations (14 CFR 61).
    1. Private Pilot ACS: See 14 CFR 61.39 and 14 CFR 61.103.
    2. Instrument Rating ACS: See 14 CFR 61.39 and 14 CFR 61.65.
    3. Commercial ACS: See 14 CFR 61.39(a) (1) through (7) and 14 CFR 61.123.
    4. Instructor PTS: See 14 CFR 61.39(a) (1) through (7) and 14 CFR 61.183.
    5. Instrument Instructor PTS: See 14 CFR 61.39(a) (1) through (7) and 14 CFR 61.183.
    6. ATP ACS: See 14 CFR 61.39 and 14 CFR 61.153.
      1. Section 61.63 provides the endorsement and training record requirements for an applicant seeking an airplane type rating to be added to an airman certificate (other than an ATP certificate).
      2. Section 61.155 describes the knowledge areas for ATP applicants.
      3. Section 61.156 describes the training required for applicants seeking a multiengine ATP certificate.
      4. Section 61.157 provides the endorsement and training record requirements for an applicant seeking an airplane type rating to be added to an ATP certificate or for an airplane type rating to be concurrently completed with the original issuance of an ATP certificate.
      5. Section 61.159 details the aeronautical experience needed to be eligible for an ATP certificate in the airplane category.
      6. Section 61.160 outlines the eligibility requirements for a multiengine ATP certificate with restricted privileges with reduced aeronautical experience. It also specifies the limitations that must be placed on the ATP certificate if the applicant uses this section to qualify for the certificate.
      7. Section 61.165 defines the requirements for the addition of an aircraft category or class rating to an ATP certificate.
