Check Ride
All flight crew members shall satisfactorily complete the appropriate check rides prescribed by CFR Part 135 as follows:
- Line Check [CFR 135.299] – Captain only.
- Within the preceding 12 calendar months, the Captain must have satisfactorily completed a line check conducted by an approved Company check pilot or an FAA Safety Inspector in operations under CFR Part 135 in one of the types of aircraft listed in the operations specifications, paragraph D-085.
- The Line Check shall be recorded using the Airman Competency Proficiency Check, FAA Form 8410-3.
- The original will be placed in the pilot’s permanent records or a scanned copy stored in the pilots electronic record, when electronic recordkeeping is approved.
- Proficiency/Competency Check [CFR 135.293, CFR 135.297]
- Within the preceding 12 calendar months, each pilot shall have passed a written or oral test given by the Administrator or an authorized check airman as prescribed in CFR 135.293(a). In addition, the pilot shall have completed a Proficiency / Competency Check in the category, class and type (if a type rating is required) to which that pilot is assigned as follows:
- Captain [CFR 135.293(b), 135.297]
- A Proficiency Check conducted either by the Administrator or an approved Check Pilot within the preceding 12 calendar months and, in addition,
- An Instrument Proficiency Check (simulator or aircraft) within the preceding 6 calendar months, when the pilot is to be assigned any flight under Instrument Flight Rules.
- First Officer [CFR 135.293(b), CFR 135.245, 61.57]
- A Competency Check [CFR 135.293(b)/CFR 135.245] conducted either by the Administrator or an approved Check Pilot within the preceding 12 calendar months, AND, for flight under IFR,
- An Instrument Proficiency Check [CFR 61.57(d)(1)] conducted either by the Administrator, an approved Check Pilot, or a certified instrument flight instructor within the preceding six calendar months or performed and logged under actual or simulated instrument conditions: (1) six instrument approaches, (2) holding procedures, and (3) intercepting and tracking courses through the use of navigation systems within the preceding six calendar months.
- The Airman Competency/Proficiency Check, FAA Form 8410-3, will be used to record the First Officer Proficiency/Competency Check. (“First Officer Instrument Competency Check” will be indicated under Remarks and will not be recorded as a 135.297 check.)
- Route Certification and Airport Qualification [CFR 135.299(c)]
Any Captain, who has not flown over a route and into an airport within the preceding 90 days, shall meet the requirements specified in Section 4.11.1.
